Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Throughout this season, we reflect on our humanity and our need for God, which ultimately helps prepare us to fully experience the power and meaning of Easter. The United Methodist Churches in Sanford are teaming up to offer two options on Wednesday, February 14. Lakeside UMC will be holding our service at 12:15pm. First UMC Sanford will be holding their service at 6:30pm. We encourage you to attend the service that works best for you and your family.
Moving Beyond Benevolence in Missions

Moving Beyond Benevolence in Missions

Moving Beyond Benevolence in Missions (COPE Follow Up)

Two Options:

  • Tuesdays on Zoom, 8pm, February 13 - March 12
  • Thursdays at the Robertson House, 7pm, February 15 - March 14

Explore ways to balance charity or relief work with initiatives that are relational and measure long-term impact. Participants will discuss how to move beyond charity and benevolence toward a balance of missions that includes betterment and development.

The workshop will discuss mission from a United Methodist and Wesleyan perspective, what the Bible says about poverty, and asset-based development. This course provides a safe environment in which to explore how to understand diversity, the personal filter one takes into the field when serving, and serving with people from very different backgrounds.
